Quito Walking Tour
Having picked you up at your hotel, we'll make our way to the historic centre of Quito on board a private vehicle.
Our first stop will be the Panecillo Viewpoint, where we'll enjoy some spectacular views more than 10,000 feet (3000 metres) above sea level, admiring the Virgen de Quito statue, 150 feet (45 metres) tall.
Following our route, we'll visit one of the most traditional markets in Quito, the Mercado San Francisco. Here you'll be able to see for yourselves the charm, tradition and tastes of the Ecuadorian capital, which passes from generation to generation through the melting pot of the market. Here you'll have the chance to try it for yourselves, with some delicious fruit juices from the capital.
Having left the market, we'll head to the Church of San Francisco, a gem of colonial architecture. Next, we'll pass through its surroundings and head into a traditional shop to learn all about the secrets of cacao, Equador's most popular product, with a sweet and velvety chocolate tasting.
The tour continues taking in the Iglesia de la Compañía, which stands out for its mixture of colonial and baroque architectural styles, and one of the most important and ornate religious sites in Equador. Then we'll visit the Plaza Grande and Basílica del Voto Nacional, a testament to the varied architectural heritage of the city, with its distinctive neo-gothic style.
Next, we'll head to the La Casa del Alabado museum, travelling back through Equador's past with a complete collection of pre-hispanic art and Ecuadorian archaeology. Then we'll make a stop to try some delicious desserts in the San Agustin Ice Cream Shop - the oldest café in the city.
The guided tour continues through the traditional Calle de La Ronda, where the cultural and traditional mix in markets, colonial buildings and artisanal workshops which maintain their Equatorian essence.
At the end of the tour, you'll have the option to continue enjoying the historic centre of Quito on your own, or head back to the hotels by public transport.
